The Maine State Award for Conserving Native Plants and Their Habitats
was given to Jill Weber, cited for two decades of tireless efforts to inventory natural resources, rare plants, and invasive species throughout Maine, and for numerous botanical contributions to local, state, and federal organizations.
Weber has devoted her entire career to botanical research and conservation. She has worked hard to inventory rare plants within Acadia National Park, which has resulted in trail changes by the Park to minimize the impact on sensitive species and habitats. Jill co-authored a field guide for the flora in Acadia, a popular version of her award-winning Rhodora paper written in 2005. Most recently, she analyzed 250 plots in the Basin of Vinal Haven Island for their flora content.
