Rhode Island
The Rhode Island State Award for Conserving Native Plants and
Their Habitats was given to Peter Lockwood of Greene, RI, for dedicated, extensive, and precise studies of the flora of Rhode Island, leading to the discovery of new rare and endangered species.
He has contributed his skills to the Rhode Island Association of Wetland Scientists, the Rhode Island Natural History Survey, and the Rhode Island Task Force of New England Plant Conservation Program (NEPCoP). From Gettysburg to Mr. Desert, from the cranberry bogs of Hopkins Hollow to the marshes of Succotash, he has conducted plant surveys, restored habitats, catalogued herbarium specimens, recorded volumes of data, and monitored sites of conservation concern.
