Society Honors Outstanding Achievements in Conservation, Horticulture & Education with 2007 Annual Awards
On Sunday, November 4th, 2007 New England Wild Flower Society, America’s oldest plant conservation organization, will announce the recipients of this year’s awards to organizations and individuals for exceptional achievement in plant conservation, education, and horticulture. The Awards Ceremony takes place at the Annual Meeting, 1:30-4:30 p.m at Society Headquarters, Garden in the Woods at 180 Hemenway Road and is open to Society members and members of the press. The Society is dedicated to the preservation of native North American flora, and to the health of New England’s native flora and natural habitats.
Following a Conservation update by Conservation Director William Brumback and Seed Ecologist Dr. Tristram Seidler, the Society’s Award Committee will announce the winners of the Conservation, Service to the Society, the Homer Lucas Public Landscape Award, and the new Landscape Design Award. Winners for achievements in each New England state will also be recognized. New this year, the premiere of the Landscape Design Award celebrates the achievements of a New England-based firm or individual specializing in landscape architecture or design with a long-term commitment to the use of native plants in exceptional or distinctive landscape compositions. The Society launches the award in 2007 to mark the 75th anniversary of Garden in the Woods, Society headquarters and world-renowned living museum, displaying 1,500 of the native plant species and cultivars of North America.
