Education Internships
Big Bugs Summer Internships (2) with New England Wild Flower Society’s Education Department
Garden in the Woods, the Society’s 45-acre botanical garden, contains the largest landscaped collection of native plants in the Northeast, including displays of woodland and rock gardens, pond plantings, special habitat displays, and an endangered species garden. The Garden also operates a native plant nursery, which produces thousands of plants for Garden displays and for sale to the public. Garden in the Woods sees an estimated 40,000 visitors each year.
In 2008, the Garden will host BIG BUGS, an insect sculptural exhibit by artist David Rogers, from July 12 to October 31. Extensive educational programming designed by NEWFS will accompany the exhibit.

Both positions will involve leading interpretive tours, creating and conducting children’s and family programs, managing special garden events, and supervision of volunteers and other staff.
Interpretive Manager:
One position will focus on the interpretation of insects, plants, and their ecological interactions - through creation of exhibits, special programs, and interpretive materials, and through direct interaction with visitors.

Candidates should enjoy working with people, both children and adults. Candidates should have experience in designing and teaching environmental education programs, and need to be creative and enthusiastic individuals with strong leadership abilities. Interns should have a natural science background with interest in ecology, botany, and entomology – a college degree in the natural sciences is a plus.

The term is flexible, but candidates should be able to start the internship on or before June 1 and finish no earlier than October 20. Interns work full-time with housing provided and a weekly stipend of $240.00. Interns are covered by Worker’s Compensation, but NEWFS does not provide health insurance, vacation or sick-time benefits.
