Description

Establishing an early presence in March provides the apprentice the opportunity to welcome spring to the Garden in the Woods. Throughout the season the apprentice works side by side staff, volunteers, and interns, regarded as a “member” of the staff. Position involves a project of their particular interests, field trips, an educational curriculum, monthly articles for the website, and bi-weekly plant walks. Plus a series of planning and design projects along with BG-base work. Helps set the stage for the summer projects. Position includes managing two six-month interns and orienting them to the grounds and tasks. Concludes with putting the Garden to bed in the fall.

 

Details

  • Apprenticeship: full-time, nine-month apprenticeship
  • Starting date: flexible, as early as March 1, but no later than June 1
  • Stipend: $240.00/week and housing is provided. Interns are covered by Worker’s Compensation, but the Society does not provide health insurance, vacation, or sick-time benefits. Benefits include a wide range of optional education classes and free housing within walking distance of Garden in the Woods, Framingham, MA.

Note: A housing preference is given to this position -- Curtis Cottage, on-site home of Will Curtis, the creator of Garden in the Woods.


Skills

Candidates should have basic botanical understanding and familiarity with horticulture practices.
