Looking at Floral Structure
Charles Darwin called the origin of flowering plants an “abominable mystery.” The diversity of floral structures makes it easy to understand his frustration. In this overview, Kanchi Gandhi will teach you to look at flowers as complex structures. Using specimens and illustrations, you will learn floral characters of some of the major plant groups (families) such as magnolias, amaranths, mustards, legumes, roses, poinsettias, oranges, parsleys, mints, squashes, sunflowers, and orchids. Participants will also learn to use keys to identify plant families. Bring a hand lens if you have one.
