Winter Twig Identification
Discover ways to identify woody plants in the winter by their twigs. The characteristics seen on twigs provide powerful clues to a plant’s identity. Our observations will also include organs that remain on the plant in the winter such as leaves, buds, dried fruit, and bark. We start in the classroom with color images, guided keying of specimens, and then take a field walk to round out the day. Bring a lunch and clothes appropriate for being outside in winter weather (snowshoes will not be necessary).
