Arlington’s Great Meadows is a natural area of over 185-acres hidden just off Massachusetts Avenue in Lexington. The heart of this area is an expanse of open marsh and wet meadows. Trails circle the edge of the meadows running over a ring of upland knolls and along boardwalks leading thorough wetlands and shrub thickets. In late May a highlight of this area is a population of pink lady’s-slippers (Cypripedium acaule), which should be in bloom. Bring a hand lens if you have one.
