What is the role of native vegetation in a garden ecosystem?  To answer this question, Doug Tallamy leads a walk through the Arnold Arboretum focusing on some of its smaller inhabitants. He compares native and exotic plants, weighs the detrimental and beneficial impacts of plant choices, and elaborates on the relationships of plants and animals. Like many of today’s landscapes, the Arboretum is a collection of native and exotic woody plants that abounds with cause and effect, examples which Doug highlight while sharing his scientific findings. Bring a hand lens if you have one.
