Good horticultural practices form the backbone of any successful garden. Understanding how to apply the basics of plant care is the essential first step to becoming a horticulturist. In this 3-session course we discuss how to properly select and plant native plant material and demonstrate choosing the right plant for the right place. Students practice proper techniques in transplanting woody and herbaceous plant material. Correct methods of preparing soil, mulching and watering are explained. Maintaining your plants correctly and using proper pruning techniques are addressed and demonstrated. We wrap up with winterizing gardens and then discuss how to prepare for the coming spring.
