Rhode Island Goldenrods of Field and Forest

The goldenrod species of Rhode Island comprise a substantial proportion of the late-summer and fall herbaceous flora of the state. All are native to the region, and many are showy. Though some species are common, and considered "weeds", a few are quite rare, and deserve protection, lest they disappear. While some goldenrod species are so similar they can be difficult to distinguish, most are fairly easy to recognize. This workshop will focus on identifying the most common species, as well as a select few of the more reclusive ones. A trip to a field location with a variety of habitats will follow a brief indoor presentation. Bring a bag lunch, hand lens and sturdy hiking boots.
