Take a moderately easy hike through a northern hardwood forest following Smart's Brook in the Sandwich Mountain range. This 3-mile loop has a 300-foot elevation range and offers a wide variety of wildflowers, shrubs, ferns, and fern allies for study. Mosses and lichens also abound. At 2:30 for those who have time, we will take a side trip into Waterville Valley providing an opportunity to observe and photograph an abundance of white lady's-slippers. Bring a bag lunch, hand lens, cameras, and binoculars to help enjoy your visit to the Whites. The group will meet offsite at 9:45 to arrange carpooling.
