This rocky woodland of over 2500 acres is just 7 miles NW of downtown Boston. We hike up a small rocky outcrop (a "fell") and wend our way along Spot Pond Brook to a hemlock forest and a small meadow, looking for mid-spring flowering plants. We end at the bronze plaque commemorating the donation of Virginia Wood by the Tudor Family to the Trustees of Public Reservations in 1891, "the first such gift of land for public conservation purposes in the country." This walk, of moderate difficulty, focuses on plant ID as well as fun and interesting natural history. Bring lunch, a field guide or two and a hand lens if you have one.
