Madame Sherri Forest (Ann Stokes Loop)

Join Elizabeth Farnsworth for a 2-mile loop botanical hike in the midst of New Hampshire’s Madame Sherri Forest.  Located on the eastern flank of Wantastiquet Mountain (across the Connecticut River from Brattleboro), this locale is an easy destination for folks from New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Vermont.  We begin our hike at the ruins of Madame Sherri's castle.  Madame Sherri was a famous/infamous costume designer for the Ziegfeld Follies; her colorful legacy includes these ruins and the large area of forest conserved in her name.  From there, we will head into varied but agreeable terrain of rich woods and ravines.  This protected area is home to several exemplary natural community types associated with talus slopes.  We will admire the shoreline plants along Indian Pond and pause for a picnic lunch.  If time permits, we will hike to Mine Ledge for views of the Connecticut River and environs.
