New England Wild Flower Society's Garden in the Woods

 

 

Art Exhibit and Festivals: ART GOES WILD: Innovation with Native Plants by environmental artist and landscape architect, W. Gary Smith, through October 31, 2007. Special exhibit includes a labyrinth, flying saucers, and 11 destination gardens, celebrating the museum’s 75th anniversary. 1,500 native plant species displayed in fall array, including 200 rare and endangered species on 45 acres. Summer Hours: Open daily, now-August 31: 9 a.m.–7 p.m.; Sept. 1–October 31, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Museum Store Nov and Dec Hours: Thurs-Mon. 10-5 through Dec 24.  Closed Thanksgiving Day. Admission; $7, Seniors: $5, Children and Young Adults (6–18yrs); $3, Members and Children under 6: Free. Tours daily at 10, weekends at 2; no reservations required. Exhibit and weekend demos included with regular garden admission. Museum store, bookstore, native plant nursery and special lectures, tours, and events. Wednesday, November 14, 3:30-5:30 p.m. EXPERIMENT! — for children grades K-2Try some exciting experiments using everyday Items like eggs, flowers, soap, Ice, yeast, vinegar, and more.  Bring your curiosity and have fun!   $14 per person.  Preregistration required at registrar@newenglandWILD.org. Monday, November 26, 6:30-8:30 p.m. FULL-MOON NIGHT HIKE — for children with adult companion.  Near the night of the "Beaver Moon" we will venture into the dark forest for sights and sounds.  Who is still awake? What planets can we spot?  What tricks can we use to find our way?  Afterwards, enjoy hot cocoa and make a full-moon booklet.   $8 per person.  Preregistration required at registrar@newenglandWILD.org. Thursday, December 6 grades K-1 or Friday, December 7 grades 2-5, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. HOLIDAY NATURE CRAFTS — Using the gifts we find in nature, create beautiful holiday Items for our friends and family with seed pods, berries, and more.  We'll set up a natural print shop for wrapping paper, tags, and greeting cards.  Learn about crafts, beauty, conservation, and have fun.  $16 per person Includes materials.  Preregistration required at registrar@newenglandWILD.org. Thursday, January 24, 3:30-5:30 p.m.  grades 1-3.  MICROSCOPE MAGIC — Use powerful stereo microscopes to zoom in for a close look at nature's most magical creations like a flower petal, butterfly wing, or feather. Sunday, January 27, 1:30-3:30 p.m.  WINTER WONDERS WALK — for children with adult companion.  See a puppet show about winter survival, make a track-finder, walk through the wintry woods and enjoy hot drinks and winter crafts.  Learn how our wildflowers and animal friends survive the long snowy months.  $8 per person.
