2011 Photo Contest Winners
New England Wild Flower Society announced winners of its 2011 Photo Contest with recognition given to entries in six categories; Adult Best in Show, Youth Best in Show, Artistic Composition, Pollinators with Plants, Scenes, and Single Plant.
Seventeen photographers submitted 173 images to the 2011 New England Wild Flower Society Photo Contest. The Society was extremely pleased with the number and quality of the entries.
The Society's Visual Resources Committee reviewed each image and chose the following winners:

Best in Show (Adult) - Prickly pear by Dawn Puliafico
Judges Comments - Great color. Wonderful composition. Total surprise.

Best in Show (Youth) - Turkey beard by Alyssa Mattei
Judges Comments - Beautifully lit. Surprising early bloom which shows off the individual flowers so well. A stunning image.

Winner - Artistic Composition - Sundew by Chris Gradijan
Judges Comments - Such a surprise with such a diminutive plant. Love the compostion.
Special Recognition - Artistic Composition - New England blazing star by Carol Dandrade
Winner - Pollinators with Plants - Milkweed by Richard Hellmold
Judges Comments - Wonderful color and clarity. The flapping wings to the right of the milkweed bring great additional interest. Beautiful.

Special Recognition - Pollinators with Plants - Bee on green-headed coneflower by Chris Gradijan
Winner - Scenes - Water lily by Bettina L. Messana
Judges Comments - Lovely lighting. Thank you for including the tall plants in the front for additional interest.

Winner - Single Plant - Common buttonbush by Timothy Kennedy
Judges Comments - Stunning image. Great clarity and composition. Very singular viewpoint.
